Without Intention, You Can't Win at Life
Written by: Numair Qureshi
If you are not obsessively intentional about leaving your mark on the world, you won't leave a mark.
This is because leaving your mark often requires you to go off into the unknown.
And when you chase the unknown, it's very difficult to measure your progress towards your goal.
Oftentimes, nothing seems to be working.
However, what you will find is that as long as you are adamant and intentional and take consistent action, then things have a way of working themselves out.
I found in my personal life that whenever I stop being intentional about my goals and just "went through the motions," I had lackluster results.
Even though I meant well, that positive mental attitude was not enough. You can be the most optimistic person in the world, but your optimism will not help you achieve results until you are absolutely intentional about making those results a focus and a priority.
Take action.
Even if you don't think it's working, take action.
Be intentional about achieving results.
You will begin to get the feedback that you've needed, and you will be able to calibrate accordingly.
Without intention:
- friendships suffer
- you gain weight
- your health deteriorates
- your work performance worsens
- you won't find a romantic partner
- No amount of action will reap rewards because your mind isn't focused
- you'll be treating life like a slot machine, where your destiny is no longer under your control, but it is something left to chance.
With intention, everything that you focus on improves because you're finally keeping score and are adamant about getting the results that you want.
With Intention:
- you will get the promotion
- you will find your romantic partner
- your friendships will flourish
- you will get into the best shape of your life
- you will have everything you've ever wanted.
So, be relentless and intentional about the things you want to accomplish. And if you're chasing the unknown, then focus on what's ahead of you and exercise intent on the things of which you are aware.
Everything comes together in the end when intent is involved. This is how you exercise your selective focus.
What are some things you would like to be more intentional about in your life?
